32:47 Min

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong delivered his Malay and Mandarin National Day Rally 2023 speeches on Sunday (Aug 20) at the Institute of Technical Education headquarters in Ang Mo Kio.

In his Malay speech, Mr Lee said the government is developing a scheme to offer temporary financial support for workers who are retrenched while they are upgrading their skills.

In his Mandarin speech, Mr Lee highlighted the ways in which the government has helped to reduce the burden of rising costs on Singaporeans, adding that it “cannot give out subsidies infinitely”.

The long-term solution is for Singaporeans to make themselves more productive, transform businesses and grow the economy, so that real incomes can rise, he said.
