Modi heads for victory in India vote, but no landslide
The world's biggest election is drawing to a close, as India begins vote-counting after a multi-phase, weeks-long exercise. The National Democratic Alliance, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party, looks set for another five-year term. But so far, his ambitious 400-plus target seems a distant reality. The ruling alliance's numbers have dropped so much that the BJP has yet to cross that magic mark of 272 to form a government on its own.
