Malaysia emerges as preferred destination for mainland Chinese students
Malaysia has emerged as a preferred destination for mainland Chinese parents to send their children for further studies. Many are also taking up residence in the country for the sake of their children's education. Almost half of the new intake of international students at Malaysian universities this year come from China. According to the Education Ministry, over 44,000 mainland Chinese students enrolled in universities across Malaysia this year. This number has quadrupled since 2020 and is expected to continue rising, despite the recent increase in tuition fees. Melissa Goh reports.Â
