Laws, policies and public trust help prevent riots seen in UK: Shanmugam
Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam says a carefully designed framework of laws and social policies as well as high public trust have allowed Singapore to pre-empt a situation similar to the recent riots in the United Kingdom. He adds the unrest was stoked by falsehoods and hate speech, and underlying socio-economic factors. Mr Shanmugam says while free speech is important, Singapore does not tolerate fake or hate speech.
