03:46 Min

India's election commission said a total of 642 million voters cast their ballots in the six-week long polls that ended on Saturday. The seven-phase election began on 19 April, and was held during a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures soaring past 50°C in some parts of the country. India is preparing to tally the votes tomorrow. Exit polls have pointed to a landslide victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is projected to win more seats than what it secured in the previous election.
