French PM proposes to reopen pension reform talks amid growing debt crisis

02:47 Min

French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou has opened the door to renegotiating a contentious 2023 pension reform, in a bid to win over left-wing lawmakers he needs to pass the 2025 budget. He said that France is now more in debt than ever before, and “major savings” will need to be made. The prime minister made the address to lawmakers in Parliament on Tuesday (Jan 14), as he battles to avoid a no-confidence vote just a month after being appointed. CNA's Ross Cullen reports from Paris.
