Committee of Supply 2023 debate, Day 2: Sylvia Lim on land leases for religious purposes

01:29 Min

Many religious organisations operate on land leased to them by the Government for 30 years, with the lease subject to renewal thereafter. Some temples and churches find the sums charged for the issue and renewal of land leases to be "very high", with the amount often requiring significant fundraising efforts, said MP Sylvia Lim. Speaking in Parliament on Monday (Feb 27), she noted the ongoing Government review of the land allocation and pricing framework of land for places of worship. She asked if the Ministry of Law could clarify what it is considering to mitigate the high prices and when the review of the framework would be completed.
