China wants EU to scrap EV tariffs by 4 July: State media reports

05:05 Min

According to China's state-run Global Times newspaper, Beijing wants the EU to scrap plans to raise tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles by 4 July. The European Commission has confirmed that technical talks will begin in Brussels this week. The EU had announced that it would impose duties of up to 38.1% on Chinese EVs, while an investigation takes place over "unfair subsidies". Beijing has rejected claims over government subsidies, as well as allegations that it has problems with overcapacity. Tan Yew Guan reports from Shanghai.
