Bus driver arrested after 61-year-old woman dies following accident involving multiple vehicles in Ang Mo Kio

SINGAPORE: A 53-year-old bus driver was arrested after a pedestrian died on Monday (Jun 20) following an accident involving multiple vehicles along Ang Mo Kio Street 21. 

The police said they were alerted to the incident at about 10.25pm on Jun 20. 

A 61-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic, said the police, adding that a 53-year-old bus driver was arrested for careless driving causing death. 

Two other drivers, aged 58 and 67, are assisting with ongoing investigations, the police said in an updated statement on Wednesday. 

Taxi company TransCab said its driver reported the accident to the company on Tuesday. 

"We are deeply sorry that this has happened and our insurance loss adjuster (is) trying to get in touch with the next-of-kin to offer our condolences and assistance.  

"Meanwhile, we will be assisting the police in their investigations," said TransCab. 

In a statement on Wednesday, a Tower Transit spokesperson said a bus operated by the company was one of the vehicles involved in the accident.

The bus captain involved has been suspended and is assisting with police investigations, said the spokesperson.

"Tower Transit Singapore has reached out to the deceased’s family to offer our unreserved apologies and condolences, and to render our assistance," the spokesperson added.
