Seven bus interchanges to receive family-friendly upgrades, improved accessibility

SINGAPORE: Enhancement work will be carried out on seven bus interchanges across the island, with new features that will improve accessibility and provide a better commuting experience, said the Land Transport Authority on Friday (Aug 16).
Work will begin from August, at the bus interchanges in Ang Mo Kio, Bedok, Boon Lay, Clementi, Sengkang, Serangoon and Toa Payoh. All the upgrades are expected to be in place by 2027.
The enhancements will be similar to features found at new bus interchanges such as those at Jurong Town Hall and Tengah. Both were completed and opened in the past year.
Upgrades at the seven bus interchanges will include the improvement and provision of inclusivity facilities such as priority queue zones, additional seating, baby care and family washrooms, wheelchair-accessible toilets, commuter care rooms, tactile guide paths and Braille signs on handrails.
Air-conditioning and lighting systems will also be replaced and upgraded while staff facilities like the passenger service offices and staff lounges will be refurbished.
The bus interchanges will also be laid with new homogenous tile flooring, said LTA.
No disruption to bus operations is expected during the upgrading, with work affecting bus berths to be done one berth at a time to minimise inconvenience to commuters, said LTA.
The agency added that it will work with public transport operators to install wayfinding signs to guide commuters and will find ways to minimise noise and dust.
