SINGAPORE: A 22-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday (May 15) after he attempted to flee from a Traffic Police officer conducting a routine check along Aljunied Road.

Police later found a black samurai sword, substances believed to be controlled drugs and drug paraphernalia in a car.

On Wednesday at 11.25am, the officer was patrolling along Aljunied Road and signalled for the car to stop for a routine check.

The driver indicated to the officer that he would comply and pull over at a bus stop. But after stopping at a junction, the man got out of his vehicle and fled.

He was detained by the officer after a short chase, police said.

In a video uploaded on Wednesday by Facebook page Singapore Road Accident, the man can be seen running across a traffic junction with an officer in pursuit on his motorcycle.

The man, dressed in black and wearing a cap, then runs back towards his car, with the officer dismounting and giving chase.

When he reached his car, the officer caught up with him and put him in handcuffs. Two passengers are seen alighting from the car.

The driver was arrested for possessing an offensive weapon, cheating by personation, various traffic-related offences and suspected drug-related offences, said the police, adding that investigations are ongoing.
