The Climate Conversations Podcast: Here’s how your table at home can be made from cardboard

Can cardboard furniture withstand spills and high humidity climates? This design professor says it's possible.

Fast furniture is a growing scourge for the planet. Nearly 11 million tonnes of tables, chairs and the like are thrown out each year, according to a 2018 EU report.

Peter Ortner, an assistant professor of Architecture and Sustainable Design at the Singapore University of Technology and Design, tells CNA's Julie Yoo how he’s come up with furniture that's lightweight, spill-proof and sustainable.

I have designed this furniture so anyone can assemble it. The furniture is made with no glue and no fasteners. I did this because I want it to be recyclable at the end.
