The Climate Conversations Podcast: Can Earth Hour produce long-term change?

Or is it just a candlelit party to let our conscience off the hook?  

Each year, millions of people worldwide pledge to turn off or dim their lights for 60 minutes as part of Earth Hour. But beyond the symbolic 'Switch Off' moment, how effective are these global efforts? 

Vivek Kumar, CEO of WWF-Singapore, sits down with CNA's Julie Yoo to talk about how big of an impact the event has on raising awareness for climate change.

It started as a symbolic gesture in 2007 from Sydney ... last year, we had millions of supporters taking part in Earth Hour in 192 countries ... this is perhaps a truly global grassroots movement.
It is very critical that all the other programmes (are well attended), that people are really involved in that. (Learn) something new, donate ... commit to a meatless Monday or not driving for a day.
