Voting in the Malaysia elections in the federal seat of Baram, Sarawak was postponed on Saturday (Nov 19) due to bad weather.

A new date has yet to be announced. This means that the results of only 220 out of the 222 federal seats contested will be announced.

A statement from the Election Commission of Malaysia (SPR) said voting in Baram was suspended due to unfavourable weather conditions which meant that officers were unable to reach their duty locations by air, land or sea routes.

Voting at 11 polling stations was affected.

Besides the seat in Baram, voting for the Padang Serai seat in Kedah was postponed to Dec 7 after the death of a Pakatan Harapan candidate during campaigning earlier this week.

Facebook users in Baram posted pictures of a long line of voters queuing knee-deep in floodwaters at a pooling centre.

Earlier on Saturday, Sarawak's police commissioner said polling in flood-affected areas in Baram was proceeding as planned.
